This weeks list is inspired by my recent conversation with Christina Alden and Alex Patterson for the FolkMyLife podcast. one of the things we talked about is the people that stay behind when someone leaves for a long journey, which led to the title track of their new album “safe travels”. Some of the songs on this week’s list such as ‘Ten Thousand Miles‘, ‘Lone Pine Hill‘, and ‘The Foggy Dew‘ were selected by Christiana and Alex during our Chat on the Podcast.

I sort of fell in love with Lewis McLaughlin’s outstanding audio soundscape in ‘summer‘. This smart and complex album finds a brilliant blend of trad and contemporary sound balanced perfectly in a whimsical enlightened joyful romp. Give it a listen !

I also wanted to highlight the dizzy fingerstyle and airy vocals of “This is the Kit“, I came across this album years ago and since its release in 2010 I think it sits perfectly among some of the best contemporary work on the scene. ‘Our Socks Forever More‘ stands the test of time for sure.

I have been a bit spelbound this week with a track from the latest offering from the phenomenal ‘Ewan D. Rodgers‘, Ewans gentle arrangement and his perfectly traditional vocal sound, evokes the sound and style of some of folks finest, in a body of work that is already timeless. Let ‘The Cold Coast of Greenland‘ be a gateway to a deep treasure trove of music. ..

‘Joe DeVito‘ returns to the list this week with another great new release. ‘The Garden‘ capitalises on Joe’s unique sound and brilliant guitar. I am so involve with this unique artist and I cant wait to see him somewhere in concert.
