In a week which has seen every daffodil in England bust open to smile at the world, we have hunted out a list of beautiful and bright new music… Last week’s list included a solemn version of  “In The Pines” by Martin Simpson, and it sent me on a bit of a journey. This week we start the list with a sultry, moody, gritty, bluesy version of the same amazing song from the 1870’s… I just love what Saint Senara have done with this. Next up, I have gone with a nostalgic kick, back to 2020, for the wonderful and edgy GlitterFox’s, mostly because I have loved this for years and I am so excited about their Debut album which is expected in the summer this year. 

Ben Greenwell, multi-instrumentalist and sassy harmonica blower is busy recording a 5 track EP with a new band right now, so I couldn’t help including his blissfully bluesy track ‘Everywhere’ on the list. One to watch for me. 

Brace yourself for the breathlessly jaunty tango of joy that is ‘Barbra’s song’. Hailing from Bedfordshire, the beautiful Flamenco Folk fascination of the band ‘South Of Polaris’ is dangerously infectious so listen with caution. You have been warned about this cheeky ear worm. 

I have been listening to Luke James Williams for a while and I wanted to share ‘off to get lost’ , Luke’s deceptively simple arrangements have been lauded by the folks at BBC6 Music and busy building his tribe, I would suggest spending some time with his tasty back catalogue. 

The epic and currently unstoppable ‘Morganway’ and their collaboration with ‘Alyssa Bonagura’ is glorious and leads us nicely in to the splendid voice of ‘Lucy Isabel’. I am quite in love with Isabel’s gentle style and soothing sound, ‘Something New’ is a bedtime listen, with a herbal tea and a hot water bottle. 

Joshua Davis’s 2024 album ‘Congratulations and Condolences’ is a brilliant, blissful and calming jewel in the crown of a musical journey spanning 30years.  

Next up we have Australian Singer/Songwriter ‘Rod Coote’ who brings a joyous modern guitar style, a wide sound, and peaceful vocal with his latest release ‘Sun and Moon’ . Rob is visiting the UK in August for ‘between the trees’ so make sure you catch up with him if you can. 

The Accidentals, provide us with a poignant moment of calm as they consider the constant challenge of moving on and leaving an old home for a new one. If you have not engaged with Katelynn, Sam and Katie yet, then I would strongly recommend a wander through their back catalogue. It is a joyous experience.

The Apex of this list is a beautiful cover of ‘These Days’, by ‘Tom Cole’. A bright and enlightened cover of this beautify classic. Check out Tom’s back catalogue because it will lead you to a very happy place. 

The music of ‘Anna’ is up next on the list, a brilliant and daring song about being painfully shy…’Something or Nothing’ explores when things seem the opposite of what they actually are – when it’s hard to know what is true. Anna’s Irish roots, and time in Yorkshire orchestras and ensembles brings a unique quality to her work. She was named recently as one of the “Highly Recommended Artists” at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.

Craig Osment blows in like a summer breeze from Torquay, with ‘Saving Grace‘ somehow managing to channel, Costello, the Eagles, Drake and Joni Mitchell, into a wonderfully distilled and concise new cocktail I have become very fond of his sound. I am so looking forward to his next release.
