#09.2025 – The daffodils are here

by | Feb 24, 2025 | Playlists

This is a Spring list, and then some… Uplifting, hopeful and bright. The daffodil tips are up, and the snowdrops are at their very best…. So, starting this week’s list with the classic “Mountain Song” by Tophouse was just too easy…. “Wintergreen” continues the trend, with a beautiful, powerful and hopeful track from the multi-award winning “The East Pointers.

Now, let’s talk about NIK. AKA, Nik Iprenburg, from The Netherlands. He has such a mature style and established sound for an 18year old artist. If his debut track “Dad Talk” is anything to go by, then we have some very exciting things to come. One to watch, I think.

I am loving the wide-open sound, of ‘everyone’s local artist’ Brendan Abernathy, as he calls “Mayday Mayday” there is something monumental and strong about “Bandanna Days“. Caamp, start to bring us back to earth with the strangely calming “Let Things Go“, before we really relax with the brilliant Nell King.

At the heart of this week’s list, is a painfully honest lament “When the Coal Dust Settled” by the worldly and battle hardened Tom Jenkins, the scope and power in this song is palpable as it pushes us hard to think about the sacrifices our ancestors made for a better life for their families…

A solid new release next from Darren Kiely leads us onto what I think might be my favourite track on this week’s playlist. “Eurydice” by Vincent Lima, his solid and familiar vocal delivers brilliant, heartwarming lyrics tie the whole list together, his line “his mother says, Darling be careful with love, it’s hard to get rid of when you find it once.”… This beautiful track has a patience and emotional grace that works wonders alongside the uplifting strings at it’s heart.

Sarah and Austin’s unmistakable sound together as Chatham Rabbits, “Pool Shark’s Table”, takes us on a slightly jaunty Americana journey towards the porch picking perfection of Sleep Stampede with “Scarecrow”.

This week’s list is one that is very close to my heart and I hope you love it as much as I do.
