#22.2025 – Let the ocean heal your heart.

by | May 26, 2025 | Playlists

Without realising it I seem to have made a bit of an ocean facing playlist. I wanted to start this week with the haunting and evocative “Selkie” by Siobhan Miller, this tale of the mythological shapeshifting creature is such a powerful folk myth and Siobhan and Kris Drever tell it so beautifully.

I want to draw your attention to Katie Pruitt, this week too, her new track “Worst Case Scenario – Acoustic” taken from the Mantras album is stunning, and this album has really impressed me. Reaching a new level of introspective sensitivity this album asks tough questions and is brutally honest.

Australian sensation Rod Coote, will be blazing a trial through the UK festival scene in what could be a hugely formative year for his great work. I love ‘The End‘ from his latest half moon bay EP which I love dearly, we featured “sun and moon’ back in week 11 and this new EP has a wider and deeper sound which I really like, I expect Rod will receive a warm reception on the UK circuit this year.

I have loved the sensational Norwegian power-house Katzenjammer, since their jaunty and irreverent 2011 album ” A Kiss Before you Go”. I had a bit of a sentimental moment this week and discovered ‘Lady Grey‘ while drawing their back catalogue. If you don’t know this outstanding all-female quartet, give them some time, they are wonderfully surprising.

Another one to watch is Sakara, who is getting attention from everywhere right now, and deservedly so… Her latest release “This is Reality” sees her lift the pace and moves her firmly into the alt-folk direction. I am so excited to see what she has in store next.

I cannot let it go unsaid, my standout discovery this week, is ‘Out To Sea” by the remarkable Cellist and Composer Paddy Milton, with his project ‘Swallows and Crows‘. I have become fully obsessed with this visceral Cello, its dark and salty vocals and echos of the deepest traditional sounds brought fresh and burning right into the modern progressive contemporary folk world.

I hope you love this week’s list….
