Folk My Life Playlist #26.2025

Maybe its the sun or maybe its the solstice, but what ever came over me this week, have caused me to take a bit of an Americana, alt folk twist… Don’t worry if you’re a trad folkie, there is still some stuff for you here, and I have a very trad list developing for later in the summer. We also lunched our second podcast episode with Rachel Hill this week… This is such a great episode with a live loop station demo and the track “we move” performed live.

This week’s list starts with two brilliant new releases from Midnight Wild, and A Different Tread respectively.
‘Silence Within Me‘ is enchanting, and has a peaceful soul which seemed like such a great way to start this week’s list. Alicia and Robert (A Different Thread) have been setting the UK folk scene on fire recently with their extensive tour of the UK, this new release is brilliant and I am so excited to catch them live somewhere.

I wanted to return to Pete Scott this week too… I have been listening to his back catalogue extensively this week and I can wait to announce something very special. Watch this Space…

I must confess to only recently discovering Haverin, and their wonderful track ‘Upside Down‘ released last year. They have a great collection of songs and are based up in Orkney, I am hoping that they find the time to travel as far as the south east soon so I can soak up their lovely sound.

I want to draw your attention to a couple of outstanding tracks on the play list this week. Cole Stacey has a brilliant new album out, and I have chosen “the quiet is louder’ but this whole album is brilliant. There is an eerie familiarity to this great album and it has easily become one of my favourites this year. I almost want to ditto this for Luke Jackson, whose awesome album “out of time” contains the track ‘Keep it Down‘, I would recommend this album for a good walk, as an end to end listen it is a great journey to go on….

My one to watch this week is Kerran Cotterell, no before you say anything, I know he’s been around for a few years…. But his latest album “No Wonder They Left” shifts his sound to a whole new level, there is space between the sound of this whole album, for your thoughts to work… What I mean is that this whole album is generous with your head space, and this generousity with the sound space appeals to me very much… This is exemplifies in the beautiful simple song ‘Cold Water‘.

There is so much good stuff on this list, I will leave you to explore the rest for yourself.
